Join the genesis covenant community
We invite and encourage you to be a part of this growing movement
By joining the Genesis Covenant community, you will be connected with support, strategies, and resources that will help you work with other people in your faith tradition to persuade your top religious leadership to sign the Genesis Covenant. You will also find ongoing inspiration and very practical information to help your faith community follow through on its commitment to the Genesis Covenant, once that faith community has actually signed on. And you will find ways to contribute your own particular gifts and skills to our shared mission of stopping climate change.
We have thought a lot about how to make it as easy as possible to join the Genesis Covenant community. In order to assist you, we have created five groups that you are welcome to join, branch off from, or tailor to the needs of your own faith community. They are designed to be a framework and mechanism that you can use to accomplish the goals of the Genesis Covenant.
The Genesis Covenant will grow as each volunteer in the Genesis Covenant Community develops a support base. We hope that you will form or join a working team that focuses on supporting the GC in one of these areas: worship events, educational outreach, direct advocacy, and media communications. This is your chance to actively shape a national, interfaith movement to stabilize the world’s climate.
The Genesis Covenant is a genuine "grassroots," all-volunteer effort that gives everyone involved plenty of room for creativity and control.
Being a part one of these groups is simply a matter of taking these three steps:
Step One: Create or Join a Blog
Start or join a Many Traditions, Engaged Education, Community Organizers, Communicators or General Interest Blog. Blogs are a great tool for people to use. Most are free and are easy to set up. Information on a Blog can be posted, talked about and shared with anyone that has access to the Internet. They can be used to explore ideas, practice talking about what is important to you, and bring people together over a common vision. To see an example of how you can set up a Blog go to https://www.blogger.com/start
Step Two: Organize a Genesis Covenant Network
Creating a support team of people from your faith community is the backbone of the Genesis Covenant. There are countless ways to build a strong network of people. When it comes to bringing people together, use whatever approach works best for you. As more people are recruited, it will be easier to spread the excitement about this initiative and to move the Genesis Covenant up through your national leadership structures.
Step Three: Stay in Touch
An important aspect of this grass-roots movement is staying in touch with other people like you. We are eager to post your success stories and progress reports in a special new section of our web site for others to read. This soon to be coming, field notes section will allow you to connect with and learn from other groups across the country. As more groups are formed and new Blogs added, this site will become an even larger support network on which everyone can rely. Click here to send us your own success stories and progress reports to help us start building this resource. Carrying out steps one through three is an essential part of making the Genesis Covenant a success. Mitigating climate change depends on all of us coming together and working toward a common purpose. The task before us will require new forms of creativity and hard work. It will take the inspired commitment and leadership of millions of people across the country. Here is your challenge. Here is your opportunity to be a part of national environmental and spiritually unifying movement.
